Not Really A Review
I have one of these coming but don't have it yet.
Just wanted to tell people that have it that there is a new BIOS out for this at ASUS.
Also the latest video, audio, chipset drivers.
It's always good to keep these up to date as it may fix any problems you're having.
pleased so far
As everyone else says, keyboard is cramped. I also have gripes about the 1024x600 default resolution. Some of my applications (games), won't run without at least 1024x768 resolution. True, you can set the resolution to something non native, but it winds up either being compressed and looking bad (letters just don't format right), or you have to scroll up and down to view the whole entire screen. Would have preferred if they made the unit a little taller and gotten rid of the cam (really, if you need a cam, just get a usb one). Also the screen quality isn't as good as on my HP laptop computer. But otherwise, I'm pleased with this computer. It is the right size. I looked at the 10" model at best buy and it was so big, that I decided that if I got something that big, I might as well get a regular laptop. So I chose this model instead.
A one day review
I can't believe how fast I got the machine. It only took two days via media mail USPS, unheard of around here.
I received the package yesterday afternoon. The computer box showed a white laptop, but it was black, as ordered. It is really small and cute. The keyboard is very hard to type on, and I have small hands. I wind up using a few fingers, instead of actually typing. I think I will be able to get use to it though. Some of the keys are in really strange places, but I expected as much from such a small machine.
I installed a few of the programs I need, like quicken. My machine did not come with a virus or firewall, so I downloaded one that was suggested to use less resources. I charged the battery several hours, while I was playing with the computer. I did have to change the power resource settings to optimize for performance to watch a CSI full episode online. Otherwise it was extremely jerky. After the change, it played fine.
After a full charge, I ran the computer for three hours and the battery indicator showed I still had over an hour left. I left the machine on and went to bed. In the morning the computer was in sleep mode. I started it up and the battery indicator now showed 43 minutes remaining, so I have no doubt that I will get at least four hours of use from a single charge.
The screen is beautiful and clear and I don't find it difficult at all to read or use. I got it for emergencies to be able to get my email, do my banking and display the photos and movies from my camera to share with family on holidays. This machine will do that well. (I did have to download divx codec to play the avi files, but everything else was on the machine).
It's a fun machine and is perfect for anyone wanting to do all the basic things one does on a computer but lacks the space for a larger machine, or wants an easy to carry around machine. I love it!
My only complaint is that, before I even got the machine the price went down and Amazon no longer honors the reduced price. They use to have a 30 day price match, now, once they send the machine you no longer get the new price. It the price had dropped more than a few dollars, I might have refused the package and purchased it again, with the new, lower price. I think that is a mistake on the part of Amazon. It was always a big selling factor for me, even though I've only actually caught the lower price a few times over the many years. That did not affect my score.
